God Supplies Us with All We Need

God has always kept things simple. Life or death. Light or darkness. Obedience or lawlessness. A communion relationship with Him, or the bitter fruit of sin. He is a loving Father who has never buried His will under confusion — and that simplicity extends to the message He has called us to carry into the world.

Preach Jesus, Not the Preacher

In the synagogues and marketplaces of the first century, the apostles and early disciples went out preaching. What did they preach? Open the book of Acts and you cannot miss it. Chapter after chapter, city after city, the pattern is the same: they preached Jesus. They preached Jesus as the Christ. They preached the kingdom of God. They preached the word of the Lord. It is almost embarrassingly repetitive — and that repetition is the point.

Jesus Himself made clear that the message was never His own invention. "For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment — what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me." He was a messenger carrying the Father's words, and He passed that same charge on to those who would follow Him. The moment a preacher's personality becomes the draw rather than the message, we have already drifted from what the Lord intended.

The Power Has Not Changed

Some feel pressure to supplement the gospel — contests, programs, elaborate productions, anything to attract a crowd. But the gospel is still "the power of God unto salvation" (Rom 1:16). When people genuinely believe that what Jesus did, He did for me, there is a power in that truth that no external attraction can match or replace. God has equipped us with everything we need. We do not need to dress up His word to make it work.

What the world needs to hear is not a denomination's brand. It needs to hear about Jesus and His kingdom. Preaching churchanity — "come to our kind of church" — is nowhere in the New Testament. There is one church, one faith, one baptism. That is the message worth carrying.

Unity Tells the World Jesus Is Real

Jesus knew exactly what would happen when His followers began dividing over human opinions and man-made traditions. That is why, in one of the longest recorded prayers in all of Scripture, He prayed for those who would believe through the apostles' word:

"Neither do I pray for these alone, but for those who will believe in me through their word, that they all may be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they may be one in us — that the world may believe that you sent me." (John 17:20-21)

One message. One body. One voice coming from a united people — that is what tells the world Jesus is real. Division, on the other hand, tells the world the opposite. It is no accident that many who have walked away from faith point to the cacophony of contradicting churches as their reason. Jesus prayed against that very thing. When we stand divided, we get out of step with His prayer. When we stand united on His word alone, we get out of His way and let the truth do what the truth does.

God has given us everything we need. The same message that turned the first-century world upside down is the message we carry today — Jesus Christ, His kingdom, His word. Let us not complicate what He has made plain. Preach Jesus. Stand together on His word. And trust that the power of the gospel is still more than enough.
