Seekers Are Everywhere

There is a question that stops a lot of Christians cold: Is anyone out there actually interested? The answer, put plainly, is yes. They are everywhere. They are breathing. They are waiting.

The Seekers Are Already Around You

Consider what the statistics show us: half of the unchurched — people who have never been inside a church — already see themselves becoming active members of one in the near future. Most of them have a genuine respect for God. They simply have not connected that respect to the Word of God or to the people of God. And 25 to 65% of those same unchurched people say they would visit a church if a friend invited them. The question is not whether they are open. The question is whether we have asked.

Work companions, school companions, neighbors, relatives — every circle of your life contains people who are quietly hungry for what you already have.

The Gospel Does the Heavy Lifting

One thing stands out across every story of someone coming to Christ: it was not the evangelist's cleverness that moved them. It was the gospel itself. A chemist who had proudly traced his atheism back three generations went and bought a Bible on his own after one honest conversation at work. He read it through three times in a month and then called a church of Christ looking for answers. A man reading the New Testament during Lent on his priest's instruction collided with 1 Timothy and came undone — not because someone argued him into it, but because God's Word said something he could not shake. A couple who had been church-shopping for years across dozens of congregations heard the truth and obeyed — and within a few years their children, their parents, and both sets of in-laws had followed them into Christ.

Paul put it simply when he said he was not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God to bring salvation. That power does not belong to the preacher. It belongs to the message.

Do Not Disqualify Anyone

The greatest mistake we make in evangelism is deciding for someone else that they are not interested. We look at the atheist, the hostile, the indifferent, and we walk on by. But the most hardened people in these stories were often the ones most ready to receive the truth — they just needed someone willing to say, If you did it God's way, this wouldn't be happening. Or, You know what you need? Bible study. Or simply, Would you like to come home and have a meal with us?

In the first century, in a single generation, with no printing press, no radio, no internet, the gospel reached every nation under heaven. They did it by teaching what they knew to the people standing in front of them. We have the same gospel. We know people by their first names. We sit beside them every day.

Do not hold this joy away from people who have never felt it. The day someone comes out of the water knowing their sins are forgiven — that joy is real, and it belongs to everyone willing to hear the truth. If they are breathing, share the gospel with them. You will be amazed at what it does.
